Just Don't Do It

Here's an ad from the 60s with some helpful advice:

Chew gum instead of eating! Watch the unsightly pounds melt away!

There should be a matching facing page, headed "BECAUSE YOU TOTALLY ARE", just to drive the message home.

All this needs is some pictures of John Goodman, Chris Farley, Roseanne, etc.

And everyone KNOWS that the best advice comes from inside old comic books! Sell Grit! Grow Sea Monkeys! Wear Dingo Boots just like OJ!

Tootsie Rolls are the first thing one should turn to in an emergency!

Possible conflict of interest, there.

I work at GNC, and we sell some pretty pathetic weight-loss stuff, including weight-loss gum. I always want to print out these old ads (and the Atlas ads) and post them up around the store, just on the off chance it'll make a customer pause and reconsider their conviction that THIS product is the one that'll make all their dreams come true!

Also, their "you should weigh" chart amuses me. "You should weigh 139 pounds! Not 138 or 140 mind you, but 139 EXACTLY!" Also, what height shoes are we talking here? Cause I think if I put on 6-inch heels I'm allowed to eat a Big Mac for lunch every day.
