Here's a long train of thought that is pretty unique to Cyclops:
Really. No one else could ever have those exact thoughts.
Ah, comic books. I love you. You're not going to find people moping about this stuff on Law & Order.
Now that's good television!
The Cyclops panel is from The Uncanny X-Men #29.

That's Cyclops for you: subconsciously sabotaging himself.
How is it that he's able to subconsciously control his uncontrollable eye beams? I thought they were locked on because he got hit in the head when he first used them. How is his subconscious overcoming a brain injury?
So did he try to kill him because he was jealous of his wings? I'm confused here.
Also, why does he need to specify in his mind about his glasses/visor being the same thing?
Claaaaaaaremont!
Since this is Cyclops, and he's working in comic book time, probably every step he takes over the mountain he seems to be climbing is punctuated by a thought like this...
"I envy Warren..."
*step*
"Ruby visor..."
*step*
"Can't tell Jean how I feel..."
*Step*
"No knows my pain..."
Etc.
It's gonna take him weeks to get anywhere...
Oh poor Cyclops, he has it SO rough! Not like Warren, who is so lucky, that he can stuff his 8' wingspan into a bunch of straps and has to wear a harness and shrug the whole mess under a LARGE sweater, and who probably looks more like the Hunckback of Notre Dame when he has civilian clothing on.
I mean, Cyclops has to wear red SUNGLASSES! Oh the Horror!
subconsciously weaken the beam or squint?
YOU DECIDE!
Just for the record, this comic is actually pre-Claremont. Though I can understand why that assumption would be made.
SallyP - Yeah! Exactly! Like, his problem is that he has to wear really cool sunglasses? Professor X is in a damn wheelchair, mopey!
just get Forge (is he still alive?) to make some ruby contact lenses
This reminds me of a recent conversation about Prince Namor, the Sub-Mariner . . . I'll try to remember it tomorrow.
I can kind of see what the writer is going for here, the tragic "I can never truly look someone in the eye" thing (later realised much better with the unable-to-touch-people Rogue) versus the relatively "freeing" wings, but yeah, the execution here just makes Cyke look pathetic and whiny.
"just get Forge (is he still alive?) to make some ruby contact lenses"
Cyclops had some emergency ruby contact lenses early in Morrison's New X-men run. Which was kind of weird, because there's no way he could use his visor with them...
Ruby Quartz contacts? Wouldn't he end up blowing his hands off trying to put them in?
