Oh, Aaron, Let's Make a Film...

So we have our Harvey Dent for the upcoming Batman movie, and it's Aaron Eckhart.

I basically have no opinion of this man, other than the fact that his name sounds a lot like Aaron Echolls creeps me out due to the amount of Veronica Mars I've been watching lately. And he looks a lot like Harry Hamlin to boot. So I'll probably never be able to think that he's not a psychopath. Which is good...what with him becoming Two-Face and all.

I do have this to say about him: he's about 40. Which is probably too old for a young DA starting up in Gotham. I like the idea of a 20-something year old actor getting the role a lot better.

There has also been some bizarre Dark Knight casting: the Rachel Dawes character will be returning, but this time played by Maggie Gyllenhaal. That's an improvement, but it's also...why bother? Just cut the character. He really doesn't need a love interest that badly.

But these are minor quibbles. I seriously can't wait for this movie.

Glad to see I'm not the only one making the Eckhart/Echolls association. Maybe Rob Thomas knows something about Eckhart that the public doesn't.

As long as Eckhart takes his cues from the animated series and not from Tommy Lee Jones, everything should be great.

I was sad to hear that they cut Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin.

Eckhart can pull off villains like nobody's business (see 'In the Company of Men,' where he plays a misogynistic office dick . . . or don't). I just worry they won't set up his good side (rapport with Oldman and Bale, etc.) proper. We'll see in 2008!

Love your site!

Hmm.

His face reminds me of the modern Tony Harris paradigm, except with smaller lips.

Interesting.

You should see him in Thank You For Smoking. It has nothing to do with Batman (except that it stars Katie Holmes), but it is an awesome flick.

Yeah, he rules in THANK YOU FOR SMOKING. I have to rewatch it and pretend he's Harvey Dent and Tom Cruise's Thrall is Batman's Girlfriend...

He seems a good choice, but older than Bruce Wayne and the Joker...

Yeah, I'm confused with the Maggie Gyllenhaal casting myself since I had originally read that the Rachel Dawes character was not returning. Oh well, she's definitely an improvement over Katie Holmes, but I would have preferred Rachel McAdams

I was thinking about this last night, because I'm a nerd, and it occurred to me that Rachel Dawes might be a love interest for Harvey Dent. They would be working together in the DA's office. Bruce would be concerned about he wellbeing because she's an old friend. Maybe he'd be jealous of Harvey.

It would actually be alright. Harvey having a fiance adds to the character's tragedy, and if Bruce cares about both of them it will only add to the drama!

Bring on the Rachel Dawes! (If this, indeed, is where they are going with her).
